Haydar Akdağ urges the viewer to think about the
orange-colored substance that he is able/unable to pass through the sifter used
for separating grains of varying sizes. In the installation entitled Mercimek / Lentil, the ceramic capacitors
sifted through the sifter are indeed made of a technological material that
resembles an organic substance. Separating different materials, can the sifter
sift through everything? Do the things we think we sift, are, indeed, sifted?
Or, as in the case of this installation, they stiffen and startle us? What do
we really see? As he re-creates the separation and sifting process of the power
that uses the magic of manipulation, Akdağ is displacing the material and
reminding us that illusion is not reality.
Haydar Akdağ, farklı irilikteki tanecikleri birbirinden
ayırmak için kullanılan elekten geçirdiği/geçiremediği turuncu renkli
parçacıklar hakkında üşünmemizi istiyor. “Mercimek” adlı yerleştirmede; elekten
geçen seramik kapasitörler, organik bir maddeyi andıran teknolojik bir malzeme
aslında.Türlü malzemeyi ayıran elek her şeyi eleyebilir mi? Elediğimizi
sandıklarımız gerçekte elenir mi? Yoksa bu yerleştirmede olduğu gibi kaskatı
kesilerek ürkütür mü? Gördüğümüz aslında ne? Akdağ, manipülasyonun sihrini
kullanan erkin beraberinde yürüttüğü eleme ve ayrıştırma düzenini yeniden kurgularken,
malzemeyi yerinden ediyor ve hatırlatıyor: illüzyon sahici değildir.
